We fully support the Australian College of Midwives (ACM) call for or all hospitals to continue to provide water immersion and showering for labouring women.
Slowing the spread of COVID-19 is essential. But while there are concerns surrounding the safety of water immersion, research demonstrates that there is no increased risk when compared with labour and birth out of water.
We must ensure that all interventions are evidence based and not at the expense of the rights of birthing parents.
