Birth for Humankind

Our volunteer doulas

Our volunteer doulas are all professionally trained and come from a diverse range of professional backgrounds including student, practicing or retired midwives, health workers, social workers, and doulas who run their own private practices.

Amber (she/her)

Volunteer since 2023

Amber loves connecting with clients and helping them navigate their own birth path whilst also preparing them for what the weeks after birth might look like for them as a new family. Being able to be there to witness one of life's most rewarding and transformative times is a real honour.

Emma

Volunteer since 2021

Emma volunteers because she believes companionship and advocacy are such profound ways to empower birthing people to access the intuition and strength that is already inside of them. She believes that everyone should have the opportunity to have this kind of support, no matter what complexities they are currently facing.

Rachael

Volunteer since 2023

Rachael believes everyone should be well supported, honoured and respected throughout their birthing journey. By volunteering with us, she recognises that working with a diverse range of people will allow her to continuously improve her skills and become a better doula for all in her care.

Giorgia (she/her)

Volunteer since 2019

After leaving her role as a registered midwife, Giorgia greatly missed working with people during their pregnancy, birthing, and early parenting journeys. Giorgia loves volunteering in order to support people to have a positive experience at such a pivotal time in their lives, and enjoys meeting amazing, interesting, inspiring people, and learn so much about the world and diversity of humankind.

Ingrid

Volunteer since 2018

Ingrid believes that all birthing people have a right to access safe and respectful maternity care where they are the decision maker in all aspect of their care. Ingrid understands that birthing people who have experienced disadvantage and oppression may need additional services to achieve equity in their care and says, "I walk beside these birthing people."

Pauline

Volunteer since 2022

Pauline has had her own challenging birth journey; immigrating from France, being pregnant during COVID-19 lockdowns and not having the support of her family. Volunteering for Pauline is about giving support, and making sure that all birthing people have equitable access to information so they can make educated decisions that are best for themselves and their families.

Monika

Volunteer since 2023

Monika feels being invited into someone’s birth space is an honour and a privelidge and is grateful to be entrusted to be a part of that journey. Monika says "Birth matters...we always remember the way we were made to feel. I learnt about Birthforhumankind early in my doula training, I felt the philosophy so deeply aligned with my own values and I knew I wanted to be a part of it."
